Below are available volunteer opportunities.

Wayfinder Volunteer

Wayfinder volunteers assist patients, visitors, and staff in various ways, offering personal service with a smile. On a given day, you may provide directions to patients and their loved ones, escort them to different hospital locations, and make regular rounds through lobbies and hallways to aid lost patients, visitors, and staff as needed. You may also help transport patients between appointments, which may involve pushing a wheelchair.

Additionally, you'll do a variety of tasks to ensure a positive experience for patients and visitors. These may include:

  • Assisting patients with making phone calls, offering them water or coffee, or bringing them reading materials
  • Being on-call to offer staff assistance as needed
  • Getting supplies and other items, such as blankets, pillows, wheelchairs, and stretchers
  • Transporting lab specimens

To apply for this role, you must be able to stand and walk up to four hours at a time. You should also be able to push patients in wheelchairs. Volunteer shifts are three to four hours maximum. Theser roles are available in Deerfield, Health District (Downtown), Kendall,  Lennar Foundation Medical Center (Coral Gables), Plantation, Palm Beach Gardens, 

Greeter and Patient Liaison

As a greeter-patient liaison, your role is to assist staff, patients, and families when they visit. Escort patients to their appointments. When patients come to sign in, you'll welcome them. If patients have concerns, you ll let staff know. You'll also serve as a liaison among patients, reception staff, and family members to ensure everyone is well-informed.

You'll also do various tasks to support radiology staff and provide non-medical assistance to patients, including:

  • Assisting patients with making phone calls, offering them water or coffee
  • Getting supplies and other items, such as blankets, pillows, wheelchairs and stretchers
  • Making up stretchers

After patients appointments are finished, you'll direct them or help transport them to other hospital floors, test sites or appointnents. This may involve transporting patients in wheelchairs or helping staff move patients on a stretcher.

Additionally, you'll keep the reception area neat and orderly.

To apply for this role, you must be able to walk without limitations and push patients in wheelchairs. Volunteer must commit to one three to four hour shift a week for one year.

Book Cart Assistant

Help make our patients  stay as pleasant as possible by bringing a selection of books, magazines, and crossword puzzles to their rooms. As a book cart assistant, you'll also be responsible for labeling and cataloging all donated and purchased books.

To apply for this role, you must be able to walk without limitations and push a cart that can weigh up to 50 pounds. Volunteer shifts are three to four hours maximum.

Pet Therapy

Visit and greet inpatient rooms and outpatient clinics and offer patients pet therapy to interested patients and loved ones
Socialize with patients, families, and staff
Alerts staff of complaints or unusual situations
.Maintain a written log of all assignments, times, and comments.
